ARH Bariatrics Center Launches New Full-Service Surgical Weight Loss Program
As part of its expansion of services in eastern Kentucky as a full-service surgical weight loss center, the ARH Bariatrics Center performed its first laparoscopic gastric sleeve operations Tuesday at Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center.
During the Gastric Sleeve procedure the stomach is converted into a thin, narrow “sleeve” or tube. The smaller stomach holds much less food and allows the patient to get full on small portions, reducing the appetite and hunger sensation. Weight loss is rapid for most gastric sleeve patients, about 50 percent of excess body weight in the first year.
The ARH Bariatrics Center opened in the summer of 2008 offering the adjustable gastric band procedure, commonly known as LAP-BAND or REALIZE band. To better meet the needs for surgical weight loss services in eastern Kentucky, the ARH Bariatrics Center has now grown into a full-service surgical weight loss center offering all forms of bariatric surgery as well as weight management, aftercare services and plastic surgery.
